Established by Lyn Whelan, Past Presented is a genealogical research company specialising in family history research relating primarily to New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Lyn is a professional genealogist with over 25 years of experience in researching and writing family history and she has been progressively tracing her own family history since 1984. Lyn has a background in education and research and a strong interest in New Zealand's educational history, particularly that of industrial and reformatory schools.
Lyn's academic qualifications include a Diploma in Family Historical Studies from the Society of Australian Genealogists; MA (Hons) in Educational History from the University of Auckland; BA (Education) from the University of Otago; Diploma in Teaching (ECE) from Dunedin Teacher's College; and a New Zealand Certificate in Tertiary Teaching (Adult). Lyn participates in a variety of indexing projects and is currently a volunteer project administrator for the joint Archives New Zealand and FamilySearch passenger list indexing project. Lyn has recently been appointed as the voluntary NZSG Child and Youth Education Officer.
Lyn has formed Past Presented to bring her research expertise to clients who live in New Zealand, or overseas and have New Zealand connections. Many clients may find they have UK and European origins and Lyn has the skills and experience to carry out research in New Zealand and other countries as long as the records have survived and are accessible. Lyn can offer advice on the methodology of family history, compiling a family history and can provide presentations to any interested parties. She is a member of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists, Society of Australian Genealogists, New Zealand Historical Association, Association of Professional Genealogists and the New Zealand Historic Places Trust.
